Travel Soccer

Travel teams offer players opportunities to compete against more experienced teams throughout Southern Maine. However, travel teams are also open to first time players. Talk to a coach or board member to see if this experience is right for your child.

Travel players are placed on teams based their age as of August 1st of the current year. There are instances where players may not be on a team with other players in their grade.

Evaluations will be held in late spring or early summer; dates and times will be announced when registration opens. This gives MUSC staff and coaches a chance to place players on teams appropriate to their ability/age.

Travel coaches are required to attend 8 hours of training every 2 years to keep their knowledge of the game and players current. These coaches have more experience and are suited well to work with players who are interested in a more competitive setting at practices and games.

Travel practices may start in July. Games will continue through mid-October. Typically, teams will play one game each Sunday at locations throughout the Greater York County area. Also, teams may compete in one or more tournaments. Typically, MUSC teams play in the Sanford Tournament in October.

U12 and above Teams qualify for an end of season championship tournament that extends into late-October or early-November while U11 and below play a final day festival after their regular season is complete

Travel team players must purchase uniforms at an additional expense.

Recreation Soccer

Recreation teams focus on skill development and fun in a non-results oriented environment. Players are placed on teams based on school grade level. There are four levels:

Recreation practices for grades 1-6 will start in mid-August. Games will continue through mid-October. Kindergarten starts 1 week before the first game in late August. Usually 1st & 2nd grade teams play early Saturday morning. Kindergarten teams play late Saturday morning. 3rd & 4th grade teams play Saturday midday. 5th & 6th grade teams play Saturday afternoons. Games are held at Bunganut Field on Brock Road in Lyman. Concessions are usually available.

All players should have sneakers or cleats, water and shin pads. Please, soccer cleats only. Other cleats (such as baseball or football) will not be allowed for safety reasons. Mouth guards are not required. Players are encouraged to have their own soccer ball but it is not necessary. Each coach has a few extras with them.
